Colden! - Take 2

We went out to Colden again today, despite the cool (high 50s) temperatures. It was a beautiful, sunny, somewhat breezy day. To be honest, when we got out of the car we were freezing! But down around the pond in the sun it was very nice.





It was a different kind of day than last Sunday but so much fun!



John, Bob, Sammi, my (almost) 80 year old mother-in-law and I went for a hike in the gulleys and in the woods for an hour and a half! We discovered Nina's cabin was covered with tent caterpillars due to three nests directly over her cabin. Bob and Sammi collected dozens of them in a bucket.






Then we followed the first gulley up the hill to where it meets the road. Along the way Sammi got to see where the water had washed out under a tree creating a deep cave under the tree. It was her first time really hiking and climbing the gulleys. She was introduced to "The Nature Tree" which has fascinated three generations of children in Colden.




After hiking down the second gulley, we arrived at the A-line across from the cabin. David and Tara crossed the gulley and joined us! Grandma Terry decided she wanted to visit her Secret Rock Garden in the third gulley. So off we went!


Grandma Terry made her Rock Garden when she was young, bringing rocks and planting myrtle along a gentle stream. It is a beautiful spot with a little waterfall and a big rock that I remember sitting on as a child. Sammi and David loved it!

We hiked back to the cabin and discovered Norm, Kelly, Jeff, Megan and Joanna playing cards. After dinner - tacos, Tara's pasta salad and a green salad and cupcakes for dessert- most of the gang had a volley ball game.
