Sunday Morning Breakfast Club

For many years an eclectic group of friends has gone out to breakfast together each Sunday following our 9:00 Mass. Somewhere along the line we were dubbed the "Sunday Morning Breakfast Club." Our oldest member is Lorraine (in her late 80s), our youngest is Megan (when she's in town). We are all quite different: married, single, divorced, widowed, some with children some not, professions raging from teacher to social worker to secretary to actress to groundskeeper. Although we lead varied lives, the thing we share that binds us together is our Catholic faith. Breakfast-with-friends often gets in to a lively discussion of our faith and how God is working in our lives.

Thinking back, it's amazing to remember how we met each other and how God brought us together. For instance, when Bob was a freshman in high school he brought home a new friend, Chris. Chris was at our house every day and started going to church with us and eventually we met his parents, Debbie and Vic, who have become our good friends. We met Paula many years ago when we were looking for a speaker for Sign Up Sunday and she was recommended. She's been our friend for 25 years! She was especially fond of Becky who was just 3 when we met.

In a world that is increasingly turbulent and godless, we prayerfully support each other through births, deaths, illness, loss of home, loss of job, depression and also share our many joys and blessings with each other! Yesterday we decided to have the whole group over for a cookout! We also invited our friend Sister Lucette and our pastor Fr. Bill who brought along a visiting missionary priest, Fr. Greg, who fit right in with our crazy group.
